This to me...is..the ultimate. I think Save Ferris in the late 90s epitomized the best of ska. The bight colors, the horns, the 7 band members, the sideburns, the novelty, the checkerboard, the infectious upbeat music. This is the kind of music that flows through my veins. This reminds me of sitting on a train from Boston to NYC and feeling like I was the coolest person on Earth. This was by far my peak in coolness. Untouchable. Sure ska was a novelty to most. A trend that came and went. But not for me. It got a hold of me and never let go. And all the things I loved about this time and this music and the look of it, they're all the same things i still love. And I want to share that with you guys.
and for some reason they disabled embedding for this one but you should check it out... The World is New
Not to mention Monique, the singer, had some killer chops. Her vocals were often mistaken for Gwen Stefani but I think she's got a better voice. Also, where as Gwen Stefani was very tomboyish Monique brought femininity to ska. Also prima, did you know they got their name, Save Ferris, from the movie Ferris Bueller's Day off? Yup.
To me Save Ferris and Reel Big Fish ARE ska. They're the best of 3rd wave. In my opinion.
