i equate food with love and with happiness.
when i look at toys what are the toys that excite me?
fake food or toys that make food like donut makers, easy bake oven, cotton candy maker.
how do i show people love or spoil them? with food or candy or sweets. its the way i know to show love. why does food make me so happy? what happened when i was a kid to trigger this?
thats what i need to find out. because if i can address the root of this and overcome it, i can find other ways to be happy and other ways to show love. and i can stop working against myself. also i can be sure NOT to do this to my children!
I get food and love mixed up too... the head things are the toughest to get over.
ReplyDeleteI must admit, this is also my biggest downfall. I can't seem to self diagnose why I think this way, but I totally understand what you're saying in this post!
ReplyDeleteI think EVERYONE equates food and love to some extint. There is a book you should read by Geneen Roth called, "When Food is Love".
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure there is a way to get around it, but we can learn to use food to care for ourselves as in making healthy food choices that are good for our bodies rather than just chosing to eat whatever sounds good.
With kids, it is tough, but I am confident you will do your very best as a mom. Some kids are just more wired to food than others. But all kids love junk food.
Working through this with a therapist sounds like a great plan! I hope you share what you discover!
