So I woke up this morning feeling so good. I had dreams that everyone I met was in the banding process. They weren't thin, they were in the process of getting thin and everyone was so understanding and helpful. Guess that has something to do with this blog world :)
Yesterday when I came back from the doctor I was very emotional, shaken, anxious, worried. But this morning I woke up so at peace with my decision. Sure I may not lose as much weight as fast as I would with gastric bypass but thats ok. I know I can do the work. I know what works for making me lose weight and if I have that help from the band I can do it. I know I can! Now its just a matter of sticking to my guns because I will admit I'm a bit of a pushover. I'm the highly suggestible type. But deep down I know what I want and what makes me uncomfortable.
I just want to thank all you ladies who are following me....HOLY CRAP!!! there weren't this many last night! WOW! thank you guys! And Drazil especially. You guys, all your stories are helping me so much and I'm so grateful that there are so many women on here going through the same thing. I should warn you that I haven't quite figured out how to keep track of all the blogs. So please don't hate me if I don't leave comments on all your blogs. But I am slowly going through them. Its overwhelming, there's so many of you out there. But if anyone wants to reach me, please feel free to email me.
also, i live in Miami.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Lap Band blogs!
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa, I was banded 2/12 and have lost 57 lbs. I am so glad I did it!
ReplyDelete@suzi thanks :)
ReplyDelete@amandakiska wow thats amazing!!! wow!!!! what an inspiration!
Hi Meli, I'm just starting my journey as well. You have tapped into a great resource of valuable information. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteDraz sent me...welcome and yes the band is the best decision...
ReplyDeleteHi Meli! Glad to hear you are at peace with your decision. One additional reason that I see people doing the band is that many doctors will allow to start trying for a baby sooner. My doc requires you to be at least 18 months to 2 years out with the bypass because of the malabsorbtion. He only requires one year for the band unless you are still losing rapidly and then he perfers 18 months.
ReplyDeleteOne additional thing is with the PCOS are you planning on doing the metformin during the weight loss process? I have been and I think it really helps. I am really insulin resistant (because of the PCOS) and the metformin really helps. In fact I rarely see ANY symptoms from my PCOS and haven't for months - even though last time at this weight I had it very bad.
Good luck!!
TJ thank you so much for that info! That makes a huge diff because its going to be hard enough for me to wait a year so whatever lets me get pregnant sooner is better for me.
ReplyDeleteYou know i have no idea. The metformin pills i have (generic) are really big pills. horse pills. can you take those when you have the lap band? My doc told me i should take them throughout pregnancy. he says they help. i'll have to ask about taking them with the band. i might have to cut them in half.
Meli,
ReplyDeleteI break my pills into two or three sections before I take them (depending on how tight I am). Anything smaller than a plain M&M should be fine. However, they can't be the delayed release. They need to be the normal metformin (or the generic).
I have found great success doing both at the same time (Metformin and the band). I had a lot of the metabolic problems that go with PCOS and the metformin is great for that. My cycles went from 90-120 days to 27 and they are normal. I still have some low blood sugar issues, but nothing like before. My insulin levels must be pretty normal b/c even when i am really hungry it doesn't feel like the old starving from having too much insulin. It is wonderful!
I am hoping that the PCOS will basically go away with the weight loss and I can get off the meds, but as you may know having PCOS makes it hard to lose the weight and hard to keep it off. That is why I LOVE the band. Instead of my body working against me it is working with me for once!!
Hope this helps!
Yes!! Thats fantastic TJ. Thats exactly what I need. The combo of the metformin and the band should finally help me get this PCOS in check. I have hope now. Just the metformin alone has already helped me a lot. Now i just need the band to help me shed this weight i've been accumulating for so many years. Thanks for your comments. Its very motivating for me. :)
