Since i have some more followers now I wanted to ask you guys 2 things.
1. Whats your opinion on Lap Band vs Realize band?
and
2. All those needles you have to get stuck with for the surgery and the fills, do they hurt? because i'm a bit squeamish and giving blood makes me nervous. I know its just a prick but i'm always afraid it will hurt more than it does. I think i have a fear of needles, especially long ones because in my experiences the long ones HURT. i'm getting teary just thinking about it. i have a real fear of pain. especially when it comes to doctors. i have had some BAD experiences i the past. Has anyone had issues with all the needles?

Hey Meli!
ReplyDeleteI honestly have no opinion on the Realize vs the Lap Band. What I did was find a DOCTOR that I liked, and accepted what he used. In my opinion (and it's just lil ole me talking here), it was more important for me to research my doctor's performance with the type of band he used. I was pleased with my doc's record, so I went with him. It made no difference to me which band he used. Ultimately, I ended up with the Lap Band.
Regarding the second question, I don't really have any issues with needles. I've donated plenty of blood, had plenty of blood draws, have several IVs, etc, etc. However, I still don't like needle sticks.
For my surgery, I had a standard IV placed, and then got a shot in my stomach to help with nausea. It was pretty shallow, so not to big of a deal. When I woke up, I had five incisions. They definitely hurt, probably for about a week or so.
Regarding my fills, the process is weird, to say the least. It is a big needle, but once it's in, the tip rests on plastic. So once you're past the initial needle stick, it doesn't hurt, because the sharp tip is no longer able to poke you.
If you want to do a little searching, go back in my blog to when I got my first fill - April 12th. I think I described it pretty well, so you could know what to expect.
Let us know if you have any more questions. Good luck!
thank you kim! that description of the fill alone helps put my mind at ease. i was just reading some of your older posts. i'll go check that one out. thanks!!
ReplyDeleteDitto everything Kim said about surgery. For my fills, my doc usually numbs the area a little bit, so that stings a little. I don't feel the actual fill needle at all -- just pressure from him trying to get it into the port. And your laying down, so you can look a the ceiling and pretend it's not even happening, LOL!
ReplyDeleteHi Meli, Drazil sent me over for support. I understand you live in Florida. I do too! I live in Navarre which is on the Gulf about 15 miles from Pensacola. Amy W. and a couple of others live in Pensacola as well. Let me know where you are. I was banded a little over 2 weeks ago. I have the Lap Band. I had read that the Realize Band has a port that may take a little longer to heal. My doctor has no preference really.
ReplyDeleteNo problem, Meli! Just let me know if you have any other questions!
ReplyDeleteI don't LIKE needles, but they're not that bad. But then again, I'm tattooed so I might not be the best judge. :-)
ReplyDeleteI HONESTLY didn't feel the fill at all and didn't even realize the needle was in. And my doc doesn't numb first. Truly no big deal.
Fills are not bad and usually you want it bad enough to just take without complaints!
ReplyDeletethanks ladies :) you put my mind at ease.
