What a day! pt 2: the show

this is when the real fun begins. this one is long so grab yourself a snack.

ok so we took I95 to 395 to downtown and bloop! it dropped us off practically at the doorstep. this place, Studio A, is right next to 2 other clubs (dance clubs) one is SPACE and the other is NOCTURNAL. boy is downtown miami spooky. its a friggin ghost town. so right away i have to say i really dig this club. its got a huge bar in the middle, then a big dance floor, and to the left and right are lifted floors with lots of ottomans for sitting and little cocktail tables. very cool. lots of places to sit. i also loved that it wasn't crowded. and that it was an 18 and over show. it was so much more chill than some of the bigger clubs in boston. i usually see the slackers at this club in Cambridge, MA called The Middle East. Love that place. this club had that same vibe which i think is crucial for a slackers show.

the show started at 8. its 8:30 when we get there. the first band hasn't played yet. great, we didn't miss anything. so the first band goes on. They're called Jacuzzi Fuzz. They're reggae with some soul or something. I dunno. Kind of like Sublime. A little boring but really nice chillen out having a drink kind of music.

the second band was this local miami band, the other band was local as well, called MUG . These guys were ska punk and they fucking BLEW ME AWAY!! they were so amazing. i mean..wow. the songs were sooo catchy and danceable. and i mean musically..they were tight. i'm talking studio quality sound. i was so impressed. i bought the cd and can't wait to listen to it in the car.

after MUG was done i finally got a chance to run to the bathroom as i've been having to pee since we got to the club. so whatever i went, then i came out and who did i bump into right in front of the mirror outside? GLEN FUCKING PINE!!!!!! AHHHH!!! *faints*.......................................................*recovers* ok Glen Pine is the trombone player/singer for the slackers. i love glen pine. i remember when he first joined the slackers. the first show i saw him in he was wearing like..a hawaiian shirt and shorts and everyone was like "who's this guy?" he's not the black guy from the cd. lol. thats what we said, because we didn't know the black guy's name! sorry! anyway. he was cool because he was a hometown boy (for us boston folks). he's from somewhere, i forget where, in MA. so everytime the slackers would come to boston they'd be really fucking cool because Glen's from there and i felt like we got a little more love from them because of that. cut to now. Glen is looking sooo fucking sharp. he's wearing this tailored suit and he's so handsome. and he looks soo slick on stage with these moves that he does. he's really improved from when he first joined. he is so cute. i love him.

anyway i see him there and i just had to tell him how amazing he is and that i just saw them in boston and i was so happy to see them here. and he was so sweet and he said thanks and asked what my name was. i was on a high as i walked out of the bathroom area and bumped right into Sharon. sharon is my friend diana's friend and roommate. she was at my wedding. i was happy to see someone i knew. i gave her a kiss and a hug and she was very sad because she says her and diana had a huge fight that day and diana kicked her out of the house. man...poor girl. i felt bad for her. i told her ed and i were off to the side if she needed some company.

then i walked back to ed and told him the amazing news about glen!! :) i was in such a great mood. then ed goes to the bathroom while i save our seats. he comes back and brings someone with him. its ralf! ----ok we have to stop here so i can explain who ralf is. about a month or so ago, i was bored and put an ad on CL asking if anyone else was into ska. i got a couple lame responses and one from this guy that was like..wow! he was into all the same bands. i was so excited and wrote back. after that we began iming each other and it was so cool to find out that he's a hialeah boy and he grew up listening to ONE STEP BEYOND on WVUM too! he used to go to all the same clubs back then and listen to the same bands. so it was like finding another me! lol. its weird that we don't know each other or know the same people. we're so similar. so we had tons in common. and he's funny, and sarcastic and witty. very fitting with my sense of humor. also he's geeky too. so he has a lot of stuff in common with ed. which is important. this way we'll all have stuff in common and will have fun hanging out. but we never exchanged pics or anything. we both knew we were going to this show and said hey maybe we'll see each other there. he did see a pic of ed, the one of him from the idea festival by the geek squad car. so i guess they ran into each other in the bathroom and he introduced himself. cut to them walking up to me.---- wow cool! so he came up to me and gave me a kiss on the cheek and we chatted a bit. he seems really nice and easy to talk to. then he went back to his friends.

then....The Slackers hit the stage. i finally stood up. i stayed standing till they were done. not only that but ed and i danced the entire time!! i'm telling you, my parents would have had a blast there. and my mom gets such a kick out of seeing ed dance. lol. i always dance like i don't care who's looking when the slackers come on. at one point during the song Married Girl Ralf came up to us and he started to twirl me around and then we all 3 danced (or "skanked" which is the term used to refer to the kind of dancing you do to ska music. to skank.)together. it was so much fun! i thought that was so cute. then he went back to where his friends were. how fun. then when they played the last song of their encore, guess who should walk in. diana!!! hello!! i've been telling diana for a month to come to this show with me. no no no no no. she finally shows up and its at the very end!! sheesh! what a kajunga head. but i was so happy to see her. i felt so awesome having 3 friends there. i felt so social. like a butterfly :). but i haven't seen diana in a few weeks or so. and she just cut her hair and it was so short and curly! so cute! she is so adorable. and her hair smelled really nice. like conditioner. we talked to her for a bit. and then she ran into sharon.

dum dum DUUUMMMMMM. they started getting into a heated argument. luckily the dj was playing some loud music so it wasn't too awkward. we just walked around and bought some merch and waited for the slackers to come out. we got to meet glen (trombone), dave (sax), and marcus (bass). we got them to sign some stuff and we got pics. they were super nice. we were waiting around for a long time for Vic(singer/keyboard) but he didn't come out on the floor. but i snapped a pic of him on stage breaking down the equipment. i love vic. he's got this new york accent and a gravely voice...ugh..its soooooo cute. *swoon*

you know whats weird? most clubs, when the show is over, will turn up the lights, turn down the music and start ushering you out to get ready for the night club people. but this club was different. the lights stayed off, the music just got louder but it turned into dance music. and bam...it was a dance club. we said bye to diana and left. when we walked out there was a huge line of people trying to get in. haha we walked OUT of the velvet rope. thats how cool we are. ;) it was about 1am and this is when the area was really bumping. there was a big crowd outside because of the 3 dance clubs right next to each other. ed and i were sooooooo exhausted. my eyes hurt. and we were very thirsty. so we were like lets find a 7eleven and get some slurpees. but they didn't have any 7elevens in coral gables. not even down US1. i haven't seen not one. so we went down bird road till we hit 90 something ave and found one. i was so tired i felt drunk. we bought slurpees and i got these!!! i love these things!!

they have a sour gel in the middle. yummm...i'm in flavor country.

i also saw these there. ewwwwwwwwww.

chocolate bubble gum? GROSS!!

then we went to sergios and got some media noches. yum yum. then we came home and had to shower because we reeked of cigarettes from the club. yuck. i hate cigarettes. all of our clothes reeked. in fact i went to wash them this morning and when i took them out of the washing machine they still stunk!!! so i had to wash them again! the 2nd time i still smelled a little cigarette funk so i put like 5 dryer sheets in there. hopefully that will do the trick.

and thats it! if you've made it this far. you're amazing. here's your prize.

ME and Glen Pine(trombone/vocals). (wish i had come out cuter but whatever)

Dave(sax) and Ed

Marcus(bass) and Ed

Vic (keyboard/vocals)

What a day! pt 1: before the show

Ok well let me tell you. Yesterday was so eventful that i had to make this a two parter!! yup. complete with pics and all.

ok let's get started.

yesterday i finally got my ass into the shower and came out feeling refreshed, with energy to actually get something done. i decided not to do groceries because standing around in the grocery store makes my feet hurt and i was trying to save my feet for the show because i knew i'd be standing alot. for those of you who don't know i have a foot condition so i try not to be on my feet for too long otherwise i'll be in excruciating pain. so i decided instead to go to my parents house because they have some leftover chinese that they wanted me to take when they went to hawaii. but i forgot. then we had that game night there and we brought 2 sodas. AND my dad had bought a carton of Publix brand chocolate almond ice cream for me (these are the only people that have this ice cream...no one else has it) and its just been sitting there.

so i go to my parents house. there i am on bird rd at 3ish and traffic is at a stand still. i was literally parked on the rd for like 10 min. thank god my car has ac, and thank god for a cell phone. i used it to take a picture of this place i saw on the side of the road. it had real tombstones outside and signs in spanish boasting discounts on tombstones and other funeral services. check out this sign for SPEEDY CREMATION. only in miami.

eventually it cleared up and i make it to bird and 117th ave when all of a sudden from the corner of my eye i see a guy selling mamoncillos!!! (i should write a separate post on my obsession with mamoncillos. basically you can't get them anywhere. they don't sell them in any stores. at least not in miami. i love these things. but its only very rare that you'll see someone selling them on the side of the road. and chances are you'll never see them on that street again.) ahh yes...the elusive mamoncillo guy. so what do i do? i swerve over 2 lanes, pull into the burger king parking lot and honk my horn at the guy. i ask him how much, he says $2. ---side bar: the bags were half the size of the bags you used to get back in the day, and back then they were only $1, but whatever i'm just sayin--- so i look in my wallet and my stupid ass only has $3!! so i gave him the $3 and 4 quarters i found in the car and bought two bags.

i was kicking myself because i knew 2 bags was nothin. nothin! i'd go through that in a day, easy. so i went to miller square, get off, go to the atm (presto!) machine in front of publix, get some cash, go to mcdonalds (by then i was starving), get lunch, take it to my parents house, eat, then pack up the stuff (soda, chinese food, ice cream) and head back over to the mamoncillo guy. this time i give him $6 and buy 3 more bags. ps. i had to do some French Connection type maneuvers to get to this guy coming from the other direction. sure 5 bags should hold me for a while. but still. who knows when i'll ever see another guy selling them?

you know they could make sooo much money if they created a website and took orders from all over the country! i mean duh! why hasn't anyone done this yet? because they're all refs. no offense but its true. they don't even speak english let alone know how to work email. so how can i expect them to know that they could be making money online? if i knew better spanish i would work with them. but i don't.

oh well. so i'm coming home with a car full of goodies. what an adventure!

i go home, wait for the signal from ed, then go pick him up from work, come home, do my make up, and then we were off......

end of pt 1. please flip tape.

lazy bastarditis

this week i've been utterly useless. haven't had the energy to do anything. all i do is sleep and eat. i think tuesday i bought like 10 candy bars and i'm already out. isn't that insane? i haven't showered, haven't done laundry, grocery shopping, nothing!!! i blame the PMS. cravings and fatigue. look it up.

today i took 2 long naps. insane. so i'm up now. doing laundry. tomorrow we're going to see The Slackers and i'm soooo excited!! they're one of my favorite ska bands and my favorite band to see live. i've seen them like 3 times in boston. i know my parents would love to go but they're in hawaii.

i want to be well rested for the show tomorrow. my feet will be killing me at the end of the show. i have never been to this club (studio a) downtown. i hope they have somewhere to sit. i hope we find parking. i hope our car doesn't get broken into!!!

here's what i made for dinner tonight. chicken, mashed potatoes and stuffing. the stuffing looks weird but it was delicious.

pizza pizza!

Tonight I made pizza again :) And took lots of pics.

Here we have the ingredients. Meat, cheese, sauce, oregano, red pepper flakes. And oil! Though thats not in the pics. The meet was left over from last nights dinner.

I started out putting some oil on the dough. I even sprinkles a bit of parmesean cheese.

Next, the sauce. It came with little meatballs in it. Cool huh? I tried to keep the meatballs on one side for Ed's pizza because he wanted half meat and cheese and half ham and pineapple.

On the left, half meat half hawaiian. On the right, all meat and cheese.

and voila! the end result. they were yummy! and i added red pepper flakes to mine. gave it a real kick. yum!!!

you know i was just thinking....

Is Erika ever not cute?? And I concluded that its impossible. That even when she's sick and breaking out and hasn't washed her hair and whatever else you wanna throw in there, I bet she still is absolutely adorable. I did a lot of thinking on this. And I'm pretty confident about my conclusion.

Moving along...

Today I had to take Ed to work then go pick up abuela and head over to my parents house. After 2 years of waiting, the insurance adjuster called my mom in Hawaii to confirm an appt for today, which they never told her about. So I had to hightail it over there to make sure someone was home. And do you know what they did?? When they got there, instead of knocking on the damn door, they called my mom at 5am in Hawaii to tell her they were there. She had to call my cell and say "they're outside". And I'm like I'M RIGHT HERE!! THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOCK! RETARDS!! ugh. poor mom. They came and made me miss The View. Grr.

Then I took my indecisive grandmother to Palace 18 and we ate at some Cuban Cafeteria type place. Then we went to see EL CANTANTE. It was good. I enjoyed it. I liked the music, I recognized some of it and some of the names of the people. It was a sad story. My grandmother doesn't know how to whisper. She would asked me questions at normal volume. It was annoying. I had to be like "abuela, shh, watch the movie".

I thought J.LO and Marc Anthony were so good together. I really enjoyed seeing them together. I loved how much she loved him. That love that she had for him, thats the love I have for Ed. She put up with a lot more than I would put up with. But she said something that really hit home for me. I try to express this to Ed all the time. She said "I love you too. Even when it looks like I don't love you. I do." No matter how angry I get, how annoyed I get or whatever, that never diminishes how much I love him. I wouldn't get so angry if i didn't love him.

Anyway....enough about that. Jlo looked AMAZING in this film. Flawless. She is a diva. But Marc Anthony is really an ugly man. LoL. I would love to see the two of them at home, or visiting family in the Bronx. Talking in Spanish and eating latin food and dancing. How cute!!!!

Food Network Favorites

I hear you guys talk about Sandra Lee and Contessa but meh. So here's my breakdown.

Sandra Lee- Meh. Her stuff is cute, I like that she has cocktails. But I probably wouldn't make anything she makes. Also, her tablescapes are redonculous.

Barefoot Contessa- She's boring. She makes delicious stuff. But she always says its so simple but its not.

Paula Dean- I LOVE HER! but seriously if I ate like that all the time I wouldn't be able to leave the house I'd be so fat.

Giada- she's cute and her stuff is good but she can be boring. she's obviously not too down to earth.

Rachel Ray- now she's down to earth. She can be a bit much sometimes but i think her 30 min meals are doable. and her $40 a day shows are fun to watch. i like seeing what she eats in diff places.

Emeril- i HATE emeril! he's SO boring! OMG!!!

Mario Batalli- i like him as a person, as a chef too, but his show is the equivalent to watching paint dry.

Bobby Flay- He's cocky, and annoying.

Alton Brown- he's awesome!! Not only is he Mr. Gadget (ignore the fact that no one has the gadgets, pans, and utensils he has) but he has tons of props and uses comedy. Very informative and very entertaining.

the guy from ham on the street- i don't watch that show. how is it?

Shows I love:

Unwrapped.
Do you guys remember Top 5? whatever happened to that show?

I had a craving for candy bars today. I bought 6.

Today was most unproductive. I didn't do anything. My ass hurts from sitting here.

Today I was hungry so I stopped at mcdies on the way home from taking Ed to work. And there was this creepy looking guy walking up to the drive through. You know that feeling when you can sense the person coming your way is gonna try to talk to you? Thats what I had. Luckily the lady gave me my food just seconds before the guy got to my car and I quickly put my window up. Then he yelled at me through the door to give him a quarter. I zoomed out of there. What a creep. Now, I'm not busting on homeless people. In Boston I used to see a lot of the same people on certain corners. They were there, if you felt like giving you did, if not thats fine. One time I bought some hot chocolate for this woman who was squatting outside my dorm. So I'm not one of those people who sends them all to hell. But there is something sooo skeezy about someone who harasses people when they have their window down. I mean he was attacking people as they went to get their food. That is NOT cool. And I really hope the manager came out and told him to get lost. Thats dangerous. And I did the right thing. A girl alone, some creepy looking guy comes up to you in a drive thru, everything I've been taught tells me to put up your windows, lock your door, and get the hell out of there.

Anyway I made myself BBQ chicken pizza for lunch using whatever I had lying around. There was this piece of chicken left over (about 2 oz) from when I made chicken sandwiches last week. Too small to do anything with. So I shredded it up and mixed it with BBQ sauce. I didn't have olive oil so i brushed some vegetable oil on the pizza dough, added the BBQ sauce/chicken mixture and then topped it with cheese.

It came out good but the BBQ sauce was this bold and sweet kind....so it was a bit too sweet for the pizza. Here's how it came out.

Tomorrow I have to go to my parents house because the stupid claim adjuster decided after 2 years to come see the roof NOW that my parents are in Hawaii. My mom got a call at 5am confirming an appt no one ever told her about. How much you wanna bet they don't show up?

Guess What???

I am writing to you from my new computer! A macbook!!

its pretty! but it takes ALOT of getting used to. I despise Mac OS. Windows is way better. too bad i can't have windows on this mac. you know, the same applications but on a diff operating system. a hybrid. i like aol. sue me. i like the layout. the way everything i have is a click away. so i downloaded aol for mac. and erika was right. it sucks. i tried logging into my blogger account and everytime aol would just crash. bah. i'll have to get my bearings and figure out a new system.

oh i got a haircut yesterday! wanna see??

cute huh?

I also got a new mp3 player

i have a wonderful husband :)

wa wa wee wa

i walked into my apartment and it smelled like garbage. but there were no garbage bags lying around. hmm...perhaps i should get a glade plug in. but i don't want to choke and die in my sleep.

i've seen 2 people walking their dogs at 6am. oof. i'll go to bed at this time, but i won't start my day at this time. YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!

ed is still sleeping. blissfully unaware of my goings on.

mcdonalds was open. i have this thing where if i'm awake during mcdonalds breakfast and i drive by one, i have to get it. because its just so rare. but i was still full from denny's last night so i didn't.

my parents have so much crap. SOOO MUCH CRAP. i can't even begin to tell you. one day i think the house will swallow them whole.

i'm gonna find garbage. and then throw it out.

Slept over my parent's house-didn't really sleep

It's 5am. Went to bed at 2am. I feel like I didn't even get a decent nap in. If it wasn't strange loud noises the ceiling fan made, it was the over powering smell of glade or some shit thats plugged in somewhere. I swear to God I can't find where that damn smell is coming from. I walked into the house going "mmmm that smells lovely" and almost choked on it in my sleep. Was there something plugged in? I see nothing in this room. Damn you Glade! So if it wasn't the heat, or the noises, or the smell, or the flat pillows, it was my brain. I don't know what it was doing but it wasn't in sleep mode. grr.

But thats ok. I'll take them to the airport, go home, take Ed to work, and THEN i'll get a decent nights sleep. I reckon that'll be around 9:45-10am.

ps. the alarm went beep beep beep, i sat up, pulled out this trusty laptop and started blogging. If thats not a girl with priorities, I don't know what is.

Epiphany

Last night I attended this meeting. It was a networking thing. A group for technology people in Miami to meet up and network and talk and stuff. It was at this cool bookstore/cafe in Coral Gables. For 2 months I've been moping around here wondering where all the young intelligent people are and I finally saw them last night! It was exciting. I hope to make friends with some of them and hang out outside the group. A couple of them were especially cool and we stayed talking till about 10:30 at night. One of them thought Ed somewhat of a celebrity because he used to work at Brightcove. I thought that was cute.

It hit me in my sleep. I'm happy with what I'm doing. I'm not comprimising and its a beautiful thing. Yesterday I kind of got offered a job, not really...an interview maybe, for a full time admin assistant job at a PR firm in Coral Gables. I turned it down. First of all I don't want to work full time. Secondly they wanted someone polished and I told them I wasn't.

Too bad you can't get paid for blogging about yourself. lol. ;)

like...oh...my god! no way!

disclaimer: i just want to state for the record that my sister is not, to my knowledge, a lesbian.  and that this blog post was written as a form of entertainment.

someone made a myspace for my parents, for their side business. my mom was like "what am i gonna do with this? i have no idea what it is." I was like, "worry not mother! i shall maintain said page. after all it is but childsplay." so i decided the first thing I should do is add some friends. I added myself, my sister, and a couple of family members.

I went to check out said myspace a couple days later to see who had been added. I saw myself and a friend of the family. Then I saw a comment from my sister that read "Melissa, mom and dad CAN NOT have a myspace. You need to DELETE THIS NOW!!! I'm leaving this comment then I'm deleting this from my friends list."

Wow thats classy. She doesn't want my parents to see her page. Which I could understand if she was say 16 or 17. But she's 29. I've seen her page. Its just a lot of pictures of her out clubbing and showing cleavage. Nothing we haven't seen everytime she comes to visit. She's an adult. She has nothing damning in her pictures. She has friended every family member and friend of the family she can find on myspace so its not as if she's trying to hide a secret life. So because of her hideous behavior I've posted a blog on my myspace that reads "oh no, don't let mom and dad see your myspace! they might find out you're a lesbian or something."

that just tickles me to death. its funny because my father has asked me on a couple occassions if my sis was gay. and if she is no one would care its just funny how she's acting. Like a child who doesn't want her parents dropping her off at the mall.

She ended up deleting the comment. But not before an email was sent to my mom letting her know someone left a comment. I'm glad she saw it. She, my sister, has since made her page private. For fear of my internet challenged parents finding her page.

White on white crime

At the VMAs tonight Kid Rock walked off stage then walked up to Tommy Lee and punched him in the face. A fight broke out and they were both taken out. This all happened when the cameras weren't rolling. That would have been better than the whole damn show! The funny thing is Pam Anderson wasn't there with either of them. She was there with the magician she does a show with in vegas. I guess once you go Pam... *EDIT* When I wrote this, it was RIGHT after the VMAs and it was breaking news. In fact, had you googled the fight at the time this was written I was one of the first 5 links on the page. In hindsight it looks like a lame post. But it was breaking news when it was posted.

grrooaaann

my vaguterus hurts!!
I was right. It's pretty disappointing.

Welcome to Roodboi Productions!

Hello guys and gals. Well I'm in the midst of getting together my content before I launch the site. It will be a while before I can get Roodboi Productions up and running but I thought, why wait to start blogging? So here we go. I'm a little disappointed at this site. It doesn't offer that much. Not more than say livejournal. But I haven't fully looked around. Maybe I'll be surprised. Maybe not.

Thats it for right now. I'm off to customize and explore.
