I'm now on this new house kick. Like...finding a house. I'm actually watching HGTV. This is sooo weird to me because I would never ever watch those shows. Not even trading spaces or anything like that. UGH I found them sooo boring. But now I watch shows like Property Virgins where people are buying their first homes. I can live vicariously through them and also learn what goes into getting a house. It also helps me look at the big picture. It doesn't have to be perfect.
Last night, in my sleep, I began to think about..ok..whats my design style? If I could design my house and money was no object, how would I do it. I'm having a hard time with that because its so overwhelming to me. I've never designed any of my living quarters. I've just always lived in the space given to me. I had my knick knacks or my pictures and such but to decorate an entire room...thats like wow. That's big.
And whats worse is that ed is a boxes for furniture type of guy. He'll live with box furniture and be perfectly happy. So he's no help to me. The most I can ask from him is to not stand in my way because I know that if I do a good job in decorating our future home, he'll be happy to live in it. He, like everyone else, feels great being in a nicely decorated and well kept place,he just doesn't know anything about how to make it that way. I'm trying to come up with a game plan. So that when that day comes I won't be so overwhelmed. To me its like....wow..I can't imagine spending all this money on all this accent furniture thats just for looks. Like things on the wall or bowls with pebbles in it, that sort of thing. But its part of the big picture. I think I will need help from people with a knack for that sort of thing. Maybe my cousin Juani.
The thing I know for sure is that I want to paint the walls. I'm SO SICK of white walls! ugh! It's been, going back to college, 7 yrs of white walls and I'm fucking sick of it. Painted walls make the place look so much warmer. Maybe a light tan color. It would look great with my chocolate couch and my curtains. I plan on getting another brown leather couch ,a love seat, to accompany this one. I think my taste is modern but....I don't know the design terms. lol. but..i'll say this. Not huge ornate chunky pieces, not ultra modern ikea type stuff thats light and thin, but somewhere in the middle. I actually just looked up a Home Decor site that tells you all the diff design styles so I'm gonna go do my homework.
*Update*
Upon looking through all the styles I think the one closest to my style is Transitional style. Here's what the site says about it:
"Transitional style is a marriage of traditional and contemporary furniture, finishes, materials and fabrics equating to a classic, timeless design. Furniture lines are simple yet sophisticated featuring either straight lines or rounded profiles. Fabric can range from graphic patterns on overstuffed sofas to textured chenilles on sleek wood frames."

Last night's dinner was soooo good!!
SALMON, SWEET POTATOES, ASPARAGUS WITH TOASTED ALMONDS
Ok well I made the potatoes just like before and they came out great!

Then there's the salmon. I skinned the salmon and added the special seasoning but this time I did something different. You know how when you eat salmon the bottom is like...brown and fatty? I don't like the texture. I have this thing about textures. So this time I decided to get those Pretzel/Crackers (from Keeber, soo good) and crumble them. I added some olive oil to the crumbs and coated the bottom of the salmon. So there were crumbs on the bottom and seasoning on the top. Then I popped it in the oven. It came out great! I was afraid the crumbs would be soggy because they were at the bottom but no they came out crunchy!

I was so excited to see that there was leftover asparagus from when Ed made me dinner. What a perfect compliment to this meal! yay! I asked ed how he made them, because they came out so good. He told me to marinade them in olive oil, lemon juice and lemon pepper. Which I did.

Then I toasted some sliced almonds. This really brings out the flavor. They're so delicious. If you haven't tried it, you really must. They go great with green beans by the way.

Then I sauteed the asparagus.

It came out wonderful! Check it out!

Look at the crunchy bottom...

Didn't these pics come out great? I recently realized that my camera has a "food" setting!! can you believe it? It's awesome!!

Anniversary Weekend
For our anniversary this year (9yrs total, 2 yrs married) I surprised Ed with tickets to a Miami Heat game. Well we almost didn't make it because he was late. But we made it. It was fun. The night ended badly because our friend ralf came over and he and ed stayed up talking all night and ignored me. Which caused a huge fight. But before that was good. Here are the pics.
On Saturday...more fighting. It was rough. But instead of just letting me stay mad Ed did something to try and make it better. I took a nap and he, with a virus and everything, went out driving in the rain and bought a bunch of groceries to make me a nice dinner. Can you believe that? This is a guy who can't even cook for himself. The fact that he went through all this trouble for me means a lot. It shows an effort that I really appreciate. And I'll always remember this lovely memory.
Here's the pics from that.

Political Rant
This is what upsets me about people. They don't want to pay out of their own pocket for universal healthcare. Its such a republican mentality. Yeah ok fine it will come out of your check, but it will come out of all our checks. We're all taking care of each other. And when something happens to you and you don't have a job, or regular insurance doesn't cover it you'll be grateful for universal healthcare. But people only care when things happen to them. Then they hope others will help them out. People are so selfish!
We all deserve healthcare regardless of age, weight, health, etc. Can't we learn anything from other countries? No we're like an immature teenager who thinks we know everything. We're a shoot first ask questions later society. The gap between the very rich and the very poor is huge. We live in a country where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and forgotten and left to die. Meanwhile the middle class struggles to stay afloat. And every asshole wants to get rich quick. Meanwhile the people getting rich are the big corporations like Insurance companies. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!
People open your eyes! Read a newspaper! Look a the BIG picture.
